Tattoo Prices

Find out how we price our tattoos at The Ink Factory below…

You’re all riled up and super excited about getting a tattoo, but you’re wondering what size dent this is going to make in the ole’ wallet? Tattoos are not cheap, well, good quality tattoos anyways! But some things factor into tattoo prices, and we’re going to run you through these factors, as well as let you know how we do things, (consultations, bookings, etc) here at The Ink Factory.

What Dictates a Tattoo Price?

A lot of the tattoo price essentially comes down to the total time spent on the service, from designing the tattoo to changes made to how long it takes in the chair. There are a few other factors too like studio location and the artist you choose to go with that also may have higher base prices for tattooing.

A base tattoo price is a minimum cost that a studio will charge for a tattoo. Our base tattoo price at The Ink Factory is €***, and then additional costs are layered on top of that depending on the following factors.

Size

This one is pretty obvious but we’re letting you know anyway! Of course, the bigger that your tattoo design is, the longer it will take to complete and so the higher the tattoo cost. Pretty straight forward stuff!

Design: Tattoo Type, Colour, & Intricacy

The type of tattoo that you get is also a big factor when it comes to tattoo cost. When we say the type of tattoo, we mean the style of tattoo. Is it a highly detailed and complex design? If so, your tattoo will be more expensive than a simpler design, such a tattoo sleeve price.

If your tattoo design requires several different colours, or even different shades of black and has a lot of gradient and shading going on in it, this will bump up the cost of the tattoo. This is because of the level of attention to detail and precision that goes into creating such a tattoo. And so naturally, tattoos that only have one colour shade and end up costing less.

Tattoo Prices: Custom vs. Flash

Tying into the design aspect of pricing, if you choose a flash tattoo design – chances are it will cost less than a custom-designed tattoo. Flash tattoos are designs that an artist has created themselves and has ready to go. We often do flash sales and this is a great way to get a tattoo for a lower cost that is still an amazing design. The catch is, of course, you need to be a little bit more spontaneous, these won’t be designs you’ve altered or spent months curating or deciding on. Flash tattoos are more of a ‘f*ck it’ tattoo moment.

Custom designed tattoos essentially cost more due to the time an artist has to spend crafting your design, drawing it up, and working with you, the customer, to make it exactly what you have in mind. Most of the time tattoo artists won’t directly copy an image of a tattoo that you show them, because they don’t feel comfortable copying another artist’s work. And so if you have an idea what you want, you’ll often work with your artist to modify it and make it original and unique to you in some way. This takes time, and so – will cost more.

Placement

Placement factors into tattoo price due to more sensitive areas, this means increased pain levels and stress on your body. Areas that are more painful to get tattooed will cost more because you’ll likely have to stop a few times to handle the pain. It also takes a higher level of skill and care to tattoo on certain highly sensitive areas. Sensitive areas like the genitals, eyes, neck, wrist, ribs, and feet require a more gentle approach than say body areas with thicker tissue such as legs and arms, etc, which may be reflected in the tattoo price.

Tattoo Artist Expertise

If you have a very specific tattoo style that you want to achieve, that only a specific artist that you’ve found can do, this often means that this is a sought after and well-known artist. Well-known, highly skilled artists can charge a higher price than less experienced artists who don’t have as much of a demand for their services.

Tattoo Removal Prices

If you’re wondering about the price of tattoo removal, we’ve got you covered for that too!

Laser tattoo removal is a beautiful invention that can help you erase any tattoo faux pas. If you’ve found yourself in a bit of a pickle and suddenly really want to get rid of a tattoo you got done, not to fear, we offer laser tattoo removal right here at TIF!

We can get you 10 sessions of laser tattoo removal for as little as €400 quid, or you can opt for single sessions priced at €50! You can find all our tattoo removal info, further details on how to book, along with our laser tattoo removal prices here.

Tattoo Studio – Dublin City Centre Location

Sometimes the location of a studio can also factor into average tattoo pricing, since studios in big Cities may have higher expenses for the running of the said studio, and so they may need to bump base tattoo prices a bit to sustain their business.

Now that you know everything that goes into deciding the pricing of a tattoo, you can kinda guess whether your tattoo will be quite pricey or not so much. Of course, you will always need to have a consultation of some sort to get a clear idea of what you’ll be paying.

We offer online tattoo consultations where you can send us the details of what kind of tattoo you want through our contact form, or you can drop into us when we’re open again. We would rarely give an exact price, and sometimes if you make changes on the day of your appointment the tattoo price might change slightly. We can, and do, offer an estimation and a range of what you should expect to pay once we’ve consulted with you.

*don’t forget we are currently not taking consultations or bookings due to being closed as a result of the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. However we are offering a deal on tattoo vouchers, where we are giving away 25% on top of your voucher purchase.
