Navel Piercing

Navel piercings apart from earlobe piercings are without a doubt the most popular body piercing in history.  There are a number of reasons as to why these piercings are so popular, the number one reason being popular culture and the prevalence of navel piercings on TV, magazines, newspapers, and even more so these days on the internet.  Another big advantage of navel piercings is that they are relatively painless during the piercing procedure, as well as being easy to take care of afterwards, however they do take a relatively long time to heal fully.  There is also the added benefit of the absolutely enormous  variety of jewellery options available after the piercing has more or less healed.  The initial piercing jewellery usually consists of a curved barbell, available in different colours as well as any coloured jewel set in both the top and bottom ball.  After approximately two to four months these options increase exponentially including a ring style, a circular barbell, curved barbells with dangling adornments and overhanging jewellery almost simulating a ring effect but with jewels.  Historically navel piercing originally dates back to ancient Egyptian times where these piercings were reserved for an elite few of the Egyptian royalty, aristocracy and their consorts.  As stated earlier these piercings are relatively easy aftercare procedure and some patience during the healing process.  The overall healing time for navel piercings can range from anywhere from two months all the way up to one year with the average being approximately four months.  The aftercare procedure for navel piercings is one of two very simple options, the first being a solution of sea salt and warm water, using roughly ¼ to ½ teaspoon of sea salt in a coffee cup of warm water.  The second option is to use solution, available from most piercing studio’s, or even contact lens solution readily available from any pharmacy or grocery store.  The piercing should ideally be cleaned twice a day, once in the morning and once at night.  In addition to this, anytime you are in the shower, at the very end of the shower lean back and thoroughly rinse the piercing, to make sure any products are washed off.  Always be sure to wash your hands before cleaning your piercing.
